Traitements de moisson

The final EMEND harvest layout and extraction plan was designed by Sidders, DM (CFS) and Steve Luchkow (DMI) in 1998.

EMEND Harvest Pattern
EMEND was harvested (during the winter of 1998) using a modified, 2-pass uniform shelterwood method.
Candidate stands were approximately 10 hectares each.
Each harvested compartment has two retained ellipse-shaped patches. One at .20 ha (40x60m) and one at .46 ha (60x90m).
All operations (felling and skidding) were completed in 5 m wide machine corridors.
Machine corridors were spaced 20 m (center to center) apart, leaving a 15 m wide retention strip between each corridor.
Machine corridors account for 25% of net compartment area. Retentions (10, 20, 50%) were achieved by systematic tree removal from the retention strips.
